2022-01-12 University of St Andrews Students’ Association — Ents Committee Meeting

Those present Ryan Delaney, Bella Zeff, Sam Lane, Alan Chodyniecki, Andrew Barron, Lucy Brook, Kian Cross

Absent Tala Mencej, Will Jamieson

Date 12th January 2022 4:05pm–4:44pm

  • Ryan asked Alan if he can arrange for photographs to be taken at significant events, which we can use on social media for marketing. The Design Team have recruited lots of photographers, who may be able to help us.
  • The training focus for this semester: CATWALK stuff. There is a possibility that the CATWALK date will be moved in an attempt to avoid ongoing restrictions.
  • There were some discussions on arrangements for training, but it was decided that we would see how the first session goes before making further decisions. Sam and Andrew will also discuss together separately.
  • Sam's emails about the radios have not been replied to. Secret testing may or may not have taken place. The radios are currently in a pile located in the tech workshop (level 3) at the Byre. Andrew will speak to someone at the Byre about them if the opportunity arises.
  • At the end of last semester (27th November) there was a Sound of Sandy's event. There were sound issues with the first band. There were less problems with the second band, which Tala — who knew the band members — teched. On the night, the first band were not very happy. Ents received a complaint from STAR/one of the band's management stating that the technical provisions were not good enough, which is the first of its kind we have received. It was agreed that perhaps STAR is not fully aware of the technical capabilities of that venue, and this may mean bands come with different expectations. On this occasion, STAR also expected someone from Ents to remain throughout the night to tech the bands. It was agreed that any response to the complaint should probably try to clarify the role of Ents and the limitations of the venue.
  • The job application for a technical supervisor has received no applicants of value, so the role remains unfilled. Phil is still keen to receive Ents feedback; Ryan will prepare this and provide.
  • A Google Sheets is to be made, which will be used to track people's availability for events.
  • No club nights planned due to ongoing hospitality restrictions.
  • Alternative events being arranged include JazzWorks, something by Blind Mirth, a pub quiz, and other musical events which are yet to be confirmed.
  • All events will be table service.
  • At the moment, there is no money allocated for hires.
  • On The Rocks: not heard much more information yet. Ryan will email to tell them what we need and when we need it by.
  • See Airtable for event information (technical requirements, who is working on which events etc.): <https://go.entscrew.net/soon>.
  • Meetings will continue in-person, with the option to join online.
